Well, this doesn't happen often in my neck of woods. Maserati Gran Turismo crashed into parked Dacia Duster which flipped on its roof last night. Both, the driver and the passenger of the Maserati fled the scene.

I wonder if this is the same car I saw the other day...

Why would the run away from the accident? I mean it can't be that hard to find out who's owning the vehicle, so they'll get caught anyways.

they'd prob rather have a hit n run than DUI.

So and run has less legal consequences than a DUI? Strange.

oh man, what a tragic loss. There's now one less Dancia Duster on the road.

Now I have an even smaller chance of seeing one in real life :(

Easy fix: punish Fahrerflucht harsher than a DUI. Works over here.

I did some digging. In Finland DUI would result 2 years in prison at the most or fines depending on how much there was alcohol in ones blood and if one has been convicted before. Hit and run would result 1 year in prison at the most or fines.

I guess that's a possibility but I doubt that. Luxury car thefts are not common in Finland and the people who commit them are almost always professionals from eastern Europe who definitely wouldn't go joyriding in their newly stolen car.

Over here being...? I don't know the details, but I'm sure that here in Germany Fahrerflucht is harshly punished, more than a DUI if I recall correctly.

Correct! Otherwise you could simply drive to the nearest pub and down tons of shots to avoid hard punishment.

Yes. Here in Ontario if you leave the scene of an accident the penalty is far far lesser than a DUI, especially if you've hit a parked car, or had a one car accident, where no other person is injured.

I saw a white Masearti Gran Turismo wrecked into a motorcycle in Knoxville about a year ago.

It looked repairable, but I didn't get a good enough look at it.

That's really stupid actually. As someone else pointed out, Fahrerflucht (= Hit and run) in Germany is being penalized much more severely than DUIs.

Yeah it creates a perverse incentive. Here if you hit someone/thing when drunk...there is literally no legal reason not to run.

That would be really funny though. Imagine a crash on the streets and both drivers heading for the next bar, doing shots together for better chances to get away with it.

I'd only consider that funny if they had managed to crash into each other while racing. ;)

I took that photo. I hope I will get the reward for sending it to the newspaper as they did use it. I was just coming back from a car gathering and happened to have my DSLR with me.

The accident happened just behind local US embassy and they security guys probably had quite hectic hour as this is probably most intense action that has occurred near the embassy in decades.

It's a small world. :D I assume the police got there very quickly then since they have a patrol constantly on watch at the US embassy main entrance.
